New Vacuum System |
| OVERVIEW |
- Located about 55 miles southeast of San Francisco, in the foothills above Silicon Valley, California
- The laboratory occupies a facility on 690 acres with a staff of about 700 plus visiting staff
- The laboratory works with IBM product developers of data storage and database research and other computer science disciplines and in physical and materials science.
| CHALLENGES |
- IBM wanted a highly reliable, low maintenance system that could work with a close differential-only one-half inch mercury between high and low set points.
- High operating cost on existing system
| SOLUTIONS |
- AES selected a stainless steel DVT duplex 40HP water-sealed liquid ring vacuum system which replaced the Duplex 60 HP Vacuum System.
- To maintain vacuum level within the 1 1/2 inch HG differential requirement, AES used a PLC-based transducer sensing control panel equipped with a digital alpha numeric keypad.
- Vacuum system parameters can be field adjusted and monitored via an RS232C communication port.
- System includes AES Pump Control Strategy, PH monitoring and control.
| BENEFITS |
- We installed the system in 2001 and it has performed flawlessly 24/7.
- Maintenance and operating costs decreased significantly.
